The opening pair of Usman Khawaja and David Warner did hard work early on to deny India an early wicket like Nagpur. The duo stitched 50 runs together, and while Khawaja looked fluent, Warner continued to play watchful. As the latter was looking set to score big, an unplayable delivery from Md. Shami took the outside edge, and the ball flew into the keeper’s gloves. Warner departed for 15 (44).

Khawaja stood strong after Warner’s departure; the left-hander brought up his 20th test fifty just in the last over before lunch. Although Australia is cruising with a run rate of 3.76, the two wickets right before lunch have brought the contest back into balance.
Ravichandran Ashwin maintained his excellent form against Australia, dismissing the top two batters, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith, in three deliveries. Jadeja too nearly had Khawaja caught in front of the stumps, but the batsman went for the review instantly, and the third umpire ruled the decision in favour of the batsman as the ball was pitching outside leg.
At Lunch. Australia are 94/3.
